UFA Summer Challenge
UFA SUMMER CHALLENGE: Huddersfield University
University of the First Age, a vibrant Summer learning programme, organised in conjunction with Kirklees Council’s Extended Learning Service which has been in operation for the last 10 years.
Over four days, approximately 200 students attended the Photography Workshops. Learning basic photographic techniques, students used the knowledge gained to photograph the architectural aspects of Huddersfield University. The brief ‘Inspired to Learn’

Bradford District Care Trust
Commissioned by Bradford District Care Trust, the Photography workshops were for a group of Adults with a Learning Disability. They were based in the new Cottingley Cornerstone Centre, Bingley West Yorkshire. The workshops ran for 40 weeks and were split into 4 ten week projects. The participants learnt basic digital photography techniques. Using symbols and signs to understand and develop each project and learning other new creative skills. The group named themselves “COTTINGLEY CAMERA CLICKERS”. We started off with photographing things in the local community, Cottingley was to undergo a redevelopment so it was interesting to go back to this project at the end of our workshops. The workshops have given participants confidence and self belief and a real purpose.

Mayfield House – Halifax

A brief insight into the lives 8 local people portraying how they see themselves and their lives. All the participants have learning difficulties and live in local residential and nursing homes. The topics covered include Family and Friends, Work, Going Out, Activities and Hobbies and Relaxation.
Calderdale PCT commissioned Liz Wilson Consultancy to carry out this work with the aim of gaining insight into the lives of people with learning difficulties from their own perspective. Hilary Dyter managed the project, produced Iris’s book and recorded what people wanted to say about themselves. Dawn Robinson Photography was responsible for the photographic work and producing the DVD and exhibition.

Fieldhead Events
FIELDHEAD FESTIVE FUNDAY
Fieldhead residents were invited to take part in a series of activities based on heritage. Billed as the ‘Fieldhead Festive Funday’, the event was part of the Fieldhead Past and Present project which was run by Kirklees Safer Stronger Communities. It was held at Fieldhead Community Centre, Lowood Lane, Birstall and featured a programme of activities.
FIELDHEAD AND THEIR PETS
The exhibition of Photographs of animals owned by residents on the estate was held at Fieldhead Community Centre, the photographs were given to the owners after the exhibition. The event was organised as part of a Huddersfield training project by Open Art
Funky Fashionistas KYPS
FUNKY FASHIONISTA’S PROJECT Young People’s Service
Young people participated in a fantastic project which involved various stages. A series of digital photography workshops took place at Brian Jackson House, New North Parade, Huddersfield. Young people learnt to take photographs of their ongoing fashion project. This involved composition, flash and close up techniques. The Young People attended LONDON FASHION WEEK to get inspiration and ideas and finished the project with their own fashion show and exhibition of their work.
